This week, students will begin a research project about pets. This project will probably take at least 8 weeks. Students will learn everything from asking questions to identifying resources to note taking to final presentation. Students will be encouraged to use Voki as their final presentation format, but I will let students use another style, if they prefer. Generally, after seeing the introduction from my Vokis, they all want to use it, too.

You know I love writing with this group of kids. We started back in first grade writing our group story. Earlier this year, they used pictures from Storybird to inspire their own story. Now, they have completed the entire process by themselves - writing and illustrating their own story in a hardback, interactive book. Second graders are the most active users of the library, but they spend most of their time selecting books from their designated AR level. I have introduced them to other areas of the library based on individual interests, but it is definitely time for a formal lesson on the parts of the library even if some areas are still beyond their interests or reading ability right now.
We'll begin with KWL chart to establish what they already know and what questions they have about the different areas of the library. Then, I'll take them on a quick walking tour and explain the parts of the library and how they are organized.
